Setting Internet Explorer Security, to enable mail merge from the CRM web client

The tasks below are done on each client machine or on the terminal server.

These settings apply for all versions of the Internet Explorer (including IE 7).

WordMailMerge will run under the standard security settings pre-defined for the zone “Trusted sites”, however as part of the Internet Explorer security, you will be prompted if you want to activate the WordMailMerge ActiveX add-in.

In order to run WordMailMerge without being prompted, follow the steps below.

How to perform an unattended installation of the Documents Core Pack client

This procedure basically requires four steps. Please follow each of them carefully!

1;Download necessary files

2; Configure dcpuai.reg- file:

This file contains the whole registry-setting of DocumentsCorePack.
You will need to make the settings containing a placeholder fit with your system.

needed modifications:

YOURSERVERNAME:PORT -> e.g crm:5555
YOURDISCOVERYSERVERNAME:PORT -> the name and port of your DiscoveryService, usually is the same as your crm server
YOURORGANISATIONUNIQUENAME -> Unique name of the organisation unit
YOURORGANISATIONFRIENDLYNAME -> The display name of your organisation unit
YOURSERVERIP -> IP-adress of the crm-server
YOURSMTPSERVER -> name of the SMTP server that is handling the mail-functionalities of the Documents Core Pack
YOURLANGUAGE -> Language of the Documents Core Pack. Available Languages: "en" - english, "de" - german, "dk" - danish, "nl - dutch"

Upgrade- INFO: If a version of the DocumentsCorePack-client is installed allready, you can export and copy the reg-entries needed.
It's very IMPORTANT to set the syncchannelname-setting to ""!!

Abstract:

How to activate debugging for Dashboard for MS CRM 4.0

Basically there is one way to activate debugging:

The next window will the show which elements havn't been activated yet.

Mark the elements you need and press activate! If our toolbar is included in these elements the the problem should be solved.

Goto the word toolbar and press the right mouse button! In this drop down list you will see our toolbar under "www.mscrm-addons.com toolbar"

Now the toolbar should be activate and ready to use!

Should the Toolbar still not be visible then please also check the following two steps:

1). Open Word and goto Tools--> Options--> Security

Here you can then switch to the makro security. The security level should be either on the low or medium setting. Under the trusted publishers tab there should be an entry with PTM. Check the box for "trust all installed add-ins and templates.

2).In certain cases our addon will also need the ".NET Programmability Support"

How to activate debugging for Documents Core Pack for MS CRM 4.0

Basically there are two ways to activate debugging:

Press the right mouse button and create a new key called "debug" and set the value to "true"

Solution 2: Activating debugging on your server/ manually via the Webconfig

How to change the location of the Temp Metadata

Abstract:

DocumentsCorePack creates 4 temporary files to raise the performance.

These 4 files are "timestap.txt", "timestap_full.txt", "metadata_full.xml" and "metadata_short.xml" and are saved defaultly in the user temp directory.

The files include the metadata from CRM.

Depending on the scope of the CRM system, files can be quite large, what could lead to problems with Terminal Server(s) setup.

DCP Server Upgrade Error

This error does not influence the upgrade process in any way. You just can click on "OK" and the upgrade will perfom as expected.

There is a problem with the update for specific versions. When you update from DCP Server 4.47 or lower to DCP Server 4.50 you'll receive following error message:

Freezing Word Problem

Symptoms

If you try to merge a document and Winword starts but seems to freeze in the background.
Resolution
To unfreeze Winword you have to minimize it. The new server setting "DCPResizeOption" (possible values: "1"[set and reset] or "2"[just set]) is a possible workaround for the "Word freezing" problem.
Navigate to this window by opening your CRM in the Internet Explorer. Click "Settings" and select "mscrm-addons settings" on the right side. In the list of products select "DocumentsCorePack" and select "SettingsKey" on the right side. Now you can create a new settings key.

With the standard Merge - functionality it is not possible to display data related to a CRM-record via multiple One-To-Many-relationships in an adequate way. Therefore the data from additional One-To-Many-relations has to be loaded via macros (WORD-VBA)
Depending on the number of merged records, there are two different ways to add the macro to your template:
1. Single-record-merge: In case of a single CRM record standard Word events can be used to load additonal data from CRM. The VB-code that loads the data(see below) is placed in the MailMergeBeforeRecordMerge-event and the data is written do the document in the MailMergeAfterMerge-event.
Examples:
create an overview of all Invoices,Quotes,Opportunities and Orders related to a company
generate a list of all activities related to a contact
2. Mass-mail-merge: When choosing multiple records (e.g members of a marketing list), the Word-Merge is not triggered. To load additional data the VB-code (see below) has to be placed in the so called "DocumentsCorePackMacroAfterDatasourceLoaded"-macro.

MS-CRM Fetch limited to 5000 records

When you try merge all records of an entity (eg "accounts") with a "fetch" from a MS-CRM system to get, you could encouter a slightly disappointing experience. At least if more than 5000 records on the number to be fetched. Microsoft limits the maximum number of records by default to 5000.If you want to change this default value the following article explains which values will have to be set.

If you try to save a template with "open templates via http"-activated, you receive following error message after clicking on the "save"-button in the Savetemplate-dialogue:
The document has not been saved
Cause
Writing into the templates share on the server is blocked by the IIS-settings of the virtual WordMailMerge directory and / or the Webservice extension WebDav is not allowed.
Resolution
Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) on the server, open the WordMailMerge directory, search and mark the templates folder and and open the properties.
Now you have to check "write" to allow writing into the templates folder via http.

Next to this, ensure that the webservice extension WebDAV is allowed.
Therefore go to the Web Service Extensions in the IIS and allow WebDAV.

Then make sure that the check box in the wordmailmerge settings is ticked!

Now it should be possible to save the templates via http.

Specify custom URL: Following wildcharts can be used in the URL:

[entityGUID] := Guid of the CRM-record

When you want to use DocumentsCorePack Client for MS CRM 4 wich Microsoft Office Word XP, you don't see the toolbar.
Cause
The Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework includes a lockback policy that intentionally prevents the .NET 2.0 CLR from being initialized to run when hosted in either the Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel process space, unless that version of Word or Excel is Office 2007.
Solution
Import the attached Registry-Key to bypass the loopback policy.

All singatures in EmailSignature for MS CRM 3.0 are stored as *.aspx -files in the CRMWeb/ptmscripts folder on the server.
Usually the CRMWeb folder is located in the MS CRM-installation directory or within the inetpub
In MS CRM 4.0 the storage location has been changed to a custom entity called MSCRM-addonstemp.

To transfer the existing singatures, you can use the existing filenames , EXCLUDING the brackets '{}' and
the file extension '.aspx' and create a new record in the temp-entity.
Step by Step
Step 1: Open the signature locations
Here we can see the location of the CRM 3.0-signatures on the right and and the new
MSCRM_temp entity for MS CRM 4.0 on the left side.
The filename refers to the USER-GUID in CRM.

Step 2: Create new temp entity-record and transfer signature
IMPORTANT: The name of the entity has to be the filename of the CRM 3.0 file,
excluding the brackets'{}' and the extension '.aspx'!!

HOWTO: Start GroupCalendar with Parameters
You can start GroupCalendar for MS CRM 4.0 outside of CRM by enter following URL in your browser: http://crmserver:port/GroupCalendar/Forms/uebersicht.aspx
Since v4.4 of GroupCalendar you can configure the user (and teams/advanced finds) and the view with which GroupCalendar should be started. To do this, you have 3 simple parameters to configure.
1. user
You can add a parameter with the GUID of the user you would like to see. For example:
http://crmserver:port/GroupCalendar/Forms/uebersicht.aspx?user={00000000-0000-0000-000000000000}
You can also start with advanced finds when you put "!" in front of the advanced find GUID. For example:
http://crmserver:port/GroupCalendar/Forms/uebersicht.aspx?user=!{00000000-0000-0000-000000000000}
And almost the same for Teams with "~" followed by the team GUID:
http://crmserver:port/GroupCalendar/Forms/uebersicht.aspx?user=~{00000000-0000-0000-000000000000}
2. view
With this parameter you can configure the view you would like to see. There are following four possible values for the parameter: month, week, topdown and day

3. gantt
This parameter has only two valid values and can only be set when you have configured the "view" parameter. Valid values ar

NOTICE! This article only applies to CTI Versions 2.42 and higher.
To use the simulation only, without a live telephone, you can install TelephoneIntegration and register with any given tapi line (e.g. H.232 - Windows supplies several lines by default)

To enable call-simulation you have to start the TelephoneIntegration client with the sim parameter. (e.g. c:\...\Callinfo4CRM.exe sim).

This will enable a new contexmenu-item called Simulation.

Clicking on that item will open a telephone simulation window.

Symptoms
It can happen that when a lot of merge fields are included in a template, the template will not merge correctly. This is due to the large amount of data that is needed.
Cause

Solution
The solution to this slight issue is to use excel instead of html. Please insert a new string value to the registry with "useexcel" and set this to true. See the following screen shots for further information.

Add an "insert Signature" button

Abstract:
As not all eventualities of CRM can be covered automatically to ensure a valid signature is inserted in any case (this is referring to follow-up emails not having a signature), the following addition to the isv.config.xml will show a button to manually add a signature if needed.

Dataprovider port

Abstract:
Symptoms
After installing the client part of WordMailMerge it can happen that you recieve the following error message:

Cause
The problem is that the default port for our dataprovider is port 9000. It can happen that other applications use this port!
Solution
Please open the registry and goto HK_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/PTM-EDV-Systeme/CRMMailMerge and create a new string value with "tcpport". Now enter an open port e.g. 9001 , 9002 etc.

Symptoms
After clicking on "SharePoint Documents" you recieve following error message:

Cause
You recieve this errors when you are in a Windows Server 2003 functional level domain and the CRM and SharePoint are installed on different servers. Because Windows default security doesn't allow delegation. This means, that the CRM server is not allowed to forward the users credentials to the SharePoint and so the SharePoint login failes for a anonymous user.
Workaround
At the moment it only exist a workaround to overcome this problem. You could choose one special user for this. All document and template related connections will be done over this user and so you have no control about template-security. All WordMailMerge users have the same permissions as the user you choose for impersonation. To set this user, open the WordMailMerge web.config in the installation directory (normally C:\Program Files\PTM EDV-Systeme GmbH\WordMailMerge Server for MS CRM 3\web.config) and add following line in the system.web-node: <identity impersonate="true" userName="domain\user" password="password"/>.

Abstract:
Symptoms
The index service is not updated automatically and as a result, documents that have been added to CRM can not be found via document search.
Cause
The task "Schedule" hasn't been started automatically after installation of PowerSearch for MS CRM 3.0.
This happens as on some Servers, alle tasks are set to start behaviour "disabled" by default and therefore it's not possible to start the task automatically.
The "Task Scheduler" enables a user to configure and schedule automated tasks on this computer. If this service is stopped, these tasks will not be run at their scheduled times. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
Solution
The service has to be set to "Automatic" as startup type.

Therefore please perform following steps:
Open the Services on the Server and browse to the "Task Scheduler" service and open the properties

Set the Startup type to "Automatic"

To see if the index-service task is now running, open a command line and insert "at"

If the operation fails, you'll get following screen. In that case, please ensure that the Task-Scheduler is running.

The PTM.LicenseManager from Version 1.38 gives you the possibility to create a scheduled task to be warned if your licenses start to run short.

1.) Establish a license notification task
- Open the Add Scheduled Task wizard. (Press "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Scheduled Tasks" - "Add Scheduled Tasks")
- Click "Next>"
