The new Tolerance Control feature expands the search range in PowerSearch (Version 2020.14 and higher). In this article, learn in detail how the Tolerance Control can be used.
Tolerance Control allows you to set a percentage for number fields only. Your PowerSearch results will include values that match your search, and values that are within the specified percentage range of your search (defined by Tolerance Control).
Example: In Dynamics 365, a record exists with a price value of 100.100. When you search for it in PowerSearch with a value of 100.000, it will not be found (see Figure 1).
Figure 1: Without the Tolerance Control feature, the price value could not be found.
But when a percentage of 10 is defined with Tolerance Control, it will be in the result list (10 percent difference of “100.000” is up to “110.000” and includes 100.100 – see Figure 2).

How to enable the Tolerance Control feature
To enable the Tolerance Control feature, open the PowerSearch Configuration in settings and enable Show ‘Tolerance’ control for number fields and define a default % value.
You also can manually ignore search fields if you enable Show ‘checkbox’ to ignore ‘Search Fields’.
Do not forget to save the configuration.
Figure 3: Define a default value
Next, open the PowerSearch search field. Set Enable for Tolerance to Yes (you can choose to define if the field should be enabled by default or not).
Figure 4: Define if the field should be enabled by default or not
Result: The percent mark next to the field means it is enabled for tolerance ❶. If it is grayed out and crossed out, it means the tolerance will NOT be used for the field. It can be changed with just one click on the icon beside the number field ❷.
