Migrating One-Click-Actions Using the Configuration Migration Tool and the Data Transporter Tool

1549 views 0 Updated on May 22, 2025

In some circumstances, it may be useful to transfer your One-Click-Actions (or OCAs) from one environment to another, such as in the case of moving OCAs from a sandbox environment (e.g. UAT or DEV) to a production environment.

Note: With Version 1.28 of the Online Service Configuration, native support for OCA migration has been implemented as outlined in How to migrate One-Click Actions between environments using the Online Service Configuration

This article describes how this process can be performed using Microsoft’s “Configuration Migration tool” and the Data Transporter for XrmToolBox.

Once the tool is installed and has started, you will be prompted with three options:

  1. Create schema: provided by mscrm-addons.com
  2. Export data: Export the readily configured OCA records from the source environment
  3. Import data: Import the OCA records into your target environment

Create Schema

This option can be ignored.  This option walks through the process of creating a schema file, but in this case, we have provided the schema file needed to migrate OCAs attached to this article. (Download Schema File)

Export Data

The Export Data option will take the schema file we provide to export the data (the One-Click-Action records) we want from the specified Dynamics 365 environment.

On the below screen, select “Office 365” and click “Login.” This will then prompt you to login with your credentials.

Once logged in, select the schema file provided in this article and select where the exported data should go.  A name can be defined for the exported data file.

After clicking on Export Data, the export will begin.  The resulting .zip file can be found in the directory that was specified.

Import Data

This option is used to import any previously exported data to a target Dynamics 365 organization.

Note: Before importing data to a target organization, please consider backing up the target’s current One-Click-Actions.  This can be done as shown above in the Export Data step but from the target organization instead.

To begin the import process, login to your target organization.  Once logged in, select the previously created .zip file.

Click the Import Data button.  This will start importing the data.  After this is finished, the exported OCAs should now be available in the target organization.

Troubleshooting

In some cases, the transfer may fail due to the tool being unable to find the correct systemuser ID.

If this occurs, this issue can be solved by going to ❶ Mappings and mapping the ❷ source systemuser ID to the target (or destination) systemuser ID.
