This article describes the SmartBar “Navigation item not found” error.
This error occurs if you hit on a SmartBar button for which the related relationship does not exist in the navigation area of this Dynamics 365 form.
This article is valid for Dynamics 365 v9.x new UCI.
For example, you have SmartBar embedded on the Account form named “Account” and hit the [Invoices]-button:
This error message occurs:
A reason could be that the navigation item to Invoice (relationship form Account to Invoice) is missing on the current form.
To add it, open Dynamics 365 -> Advanced Settings -> Settings -> Customizations
Hit “Customize the System“:
A window opens. Go to “Entities” and select the entity like in this example Account.
Go to “Forms” and open exactly that form on which SmartBar is embedded and you get that error. In this example “Account”:

The form editor opens, hit on “Navigation”.
The next step is to add the missing entity relationship to the navigation area.
In this example, the relationship from account to invoice is missing (named “Invoice”).

After adding “Invoice“, hit “Save” and then “Publish” as shown in Figure 6.
