To allow for more convenience and accessibility, Dynamics 365 and PowerApps are available on mobile devices for iOS and Android. There is now a single app, the Power Apps mobile app, where all first-party D365 modules (sales, customer service, field service, etc.) are joined together. The legacy apps for each individual module are still available, but the Power Apps mobile app offers a modern and updated experience.
This article first explores the Dynamics 365 mobile support for DocumentsCorePack (DCP), with a core focus on the Power Apps mobile app. The DocumentsCorePack dialog operates to full capacity in both: the new app and legacy apps enabling users to generate and process documents within those apps respectively.
This article will then touch on the Dynamics 365 mobile support for DCP, but with a focus on the Field Service mobile app, as this single-module app was re-announced by Microsoft for the end of August 2024. This app is also compatible with DocumentsCorePack.
Prerequisites: You must have the PowerApps mobile app installed to your mobile device and connected to an environment.
Step-by-Step tutorial: Power Apps mobile app
To show how to access the DCP dialog from the app, we will walk you through an example. For this example, we will generate a quote document for a sample quote record.
To access the DocumentsCorePack dialog, open the mobile app and then select the Sign in button, choose your account, and enter your password to access Dynamics 365 and Power Apps from your phone.
You will then view the homepage with all your apps. Select the Dynamics 365 app of your choice, which in this example will be the Sales Hub.
Open the side panel and select the entity and record of your choice. For this example, we will select Quotes and then the first quote record in the list.
On the record, select the More icon at the bottom right of the screen.
Select the Create Document button to open the DocumentsCorePack dialog.
The Dialog will operate as usual but may at times appear different from a UI perspective. However, the functionality is the same. Continue through the dialog as seen below, and you can have a choice to preview the document before finishing.
It is also important to note that One-Click-Actions (OCAs) work in the DocumentsCorePack dialog for mobile apps as well. This is done by clicking on an OCA in the second step of Figure 5 rather than choosing the Let me decide every step option.
Please note: You can also add OCAs directly from the DocumentsCorePack dialog by selecting the settings wheel icon in the dialog (Note: It is recommended to edit or create OCAs from a desktop PC though).
Step-by-Step tutorial: Field Service mobile app
As mentioned before, the Field Service mobile app is also compatible with DocumentsCorePack (DCP). To show how to access the DCP dialog from the app, we will go through an example. The goal will be to take responses from a work order inspection report and generate them into a pdf document.
Please note: This example uses a DCP template that pulls in responses from an inspection report. Click here if you would like to learn how to create this template.
To start, log into the Field Service App, navigate to Work Orders, and select a work order that has an inspection report associated with it.
Then select Tasks and open a completed inspection report listed below.
Select the More button followed by the Create Document button. This will open the DocumentsCorePack dialog.
Proceed through the dialog as normal and preview the document at the end to ensure all is correct.
Below you can view a sample completed document.
