What Remains the Same

Rest assured, the core features of the DCP Template Designer remain unchanged:

  • Simple Data Mapping from Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform into documents
  • Handling of complex relationships
  • Easy placeholder insertion
  • Conditional content
  • Template testing and validation
  • …

We are committed to achieving feature parity with the classic Desktop Client. However, please note that some advanced features, such as Charting, are not yet available in the Office Add-In for technical reasons or due to time constraints.

Independent of whether you choose the Office Add-In or continue with the classic Desktop Client, you’ll have access to the full range of powerful template design capabilities.

Impact on Existing Templates: Compatibility and Conversion Process

When you open a template created with the classic Template Designer (COM Add-In) in the new Office Add-In, you will be prompted to convert the template to the new format. It is important to note that you can continue to modify templates interchangeably between both versions without any functional limitations.

  • The conversion is not modifying any content within the document
  • After conversion and saving, the template remains fully compatible with both the new Office Add-In and the classic Desktop Client.

Note: We recommend exporting / creating a backup of your templates before testing the Add-In. See: Template Export Options
